Augusta produced another memorable tournament. Despite the absence of world number one, Tiger Woods, the excitement and drama lived up to previous years. Bubba Watson collected his second green jacket in three years with his power taming the long Augusta National golf course. Bubba Watson's power is well renowned, something he proved during the final round with his drive from the 13th tee measuring 366 yards! However, it was a well rounded long game that delivered the victory. He finished in the top 15 (in stats) in driver distance, driving accuracy and greens in regulation.
Bubba's head cheerleader on Sunday evening was Nick Edey. Nick had drawn Bubba Watson in the pro-shop Masters Sweepstake. Nick won £300 in the pro-shop.
He has very generously donated £50 of his winnings to the Junior Team fund for the year. I know Laurie Cassar (Junior Organiser) is very grateful for the contribution. Steve Sadler (Jonas Blixt) and Barry Chetham (Jordan Spieth) shared second place and won £75 each in the pro-shop. We added a wooden spoon prize into this year's sweepstake, and this was won by Graham Goodman when previous champion Ben Crenshaw finished in last place. Graham won £20 in the pro-shop. Congratulations to you all.
We are holding a raffle to help raise funds for the Junior Team this year. The raffle is £5 to enter and the winner will receive a Sky Caddie Aire. The draw will take place on Easter Sunday, after the Easter Meeting and presentation. Raffle tickets can be purchased over the bar. Our juniors have achieved unparalleled success in recent years, winning the Brighton Junior league twice in the last three years!
Congratulations to Paul Gumbrell for winning the Mid-Week Order of Merit and to Graham Snelgrove for winning the Weekend Order of Merit - a fantastic achievement by Graham in his first full year as a member. Graham is not resting on his laurels; we spent an hour on the FlightScope this week testing the latest equipment.
The up-take on our newly delivered FlightScope has been very positive. Many members and visitors have seen the benefits of the new technology already. Gary Warman was fitted for a new TaylorMade Jet Speed Driver and increased his average distance by 17 yards over his old driver, a Ping G10! Gary hit one incredible driver over 265 yards!
Steve Baugh has also been fitted for a new set of irons; Steve experienced a huge gain of 16 yards in his 6 iron distance. He increased his average distance from 160 yards to 176 yards. Steve was fitted for a set of Callaway X2 Hot irons and took advantage of Callaway's fantastic promotion - buy a set of 7 irons and receive a wedge free of charge. Come and experience the fitting process and see what technology can add to your game. To book a fitting please contact me here.
TaylorMade have announced the launch of the SLDR Mini Driver. A 260cc metal wood equipped with a 43.5 inch length shaft. This has been designed to promote distance and accuracy for players who frequently drive with their 3 wood. Their research indicates that a high percentage of golfers, regardless of their skill, hit their 3 wood off the tee more frequently than off the fairway. However, the 3 wood is designed to hit from the turf not from a tee. The SLDR Mini Driver fills that void between product design and product use.
For more information please come in store. The SLDR Mini Driver will be in stock shortly.
