Osmor Trophy - The curse of the captaincy has struck me. I have had a small operation on my back this week and so I cannot play golf for four weeks, meaning I will be missing the Osmor Trophy. The Osmor Trophy is for the top 36 golfers from last year's Order of Merit. If you're interested in playing in this competition please see the sign-up sheet on the noticeboard. Even if you were not in the top 36 show your interest and if there is space for you to play you will be entered.
Captain's Charity Day - Plans are in full flow for the day and we are hoping for a great turnout. It's now only five weeks away and the limited team slots are being taken up fast. Please plan your team and let Greg know in the office as soon as you can. We are still after more raffle, tombola and auction prizes if you have anything that would be suitable please let me know.
Matchplay League - The league is now up on the noticeboard and games are being played. I would love to see more names on the list and it's never too late to get involved. Please let either Greg or myself know if you want to play in this new and exciting competition.
Some honesty about drivers
This week we had Hassocks member Chris Blake in the Swing Studio, testing and comparing the different drivers on the market. His handicap is 17, and currently uses the Callaway XR (10.5 Reg) driver. He is a natural fader of the ball.
Titleist 915D2
Nice, comfortable and has a better balance than my own. I like the looks but I prefer a non-glossy head
PING G
Feels lighter than the rest, but really nice off the face. I like the look, a Matt finish which makes a nice sound
TaylorMade M2
Looks very 'jazzy' but the head looks very good. I like the difference in the design. It feels very nice and has a good sound. It is much smoother to swing than my current driver
TaylorMade M1
Feels heavier than my current driver. I like the looks (same in appearance as the M2) but it feels far better having made alterations to settings
Callaway XR 16
Feels really nice straight away and gives a better ball shape - straighter - and more forgiving
Callaway Great Big Bertha
Feels slightly heavier than mine, not the best looking club (very stealth looking) but feels good
After hitting several shots with each of the above drivers, the results are as follows:
Longest single shot in test - TaylorMade M2
Longest driver average - PING G
Straightest in test - Callaway XR 16
The recommended diver for Chris is the Callaway XR 16. It is only a few yards shorter than the PING G but is the straightest.
