When striking an iron, it's important to have your hands in front of the ball at address and impact. By striking the ball with your hands in front of the ball, rather than behind, you create more leverage and pressure through impact. This will result in greater distance because you compress the golf ball more through the hitting area.
Do you create enough pressure at impact?
Would you like to achieve greater distance?
Also, by having the correct wrist angles at address and impact, you're able to achieve the correct ball flight to optimise distance and control. Do you hit the ball lower or higher than you would like? The probable cause for this would be incorrect wrist angles at address or impact, or both! During recent lessons I have seen several people suffering from this fault.
See above the before (left) and the after (right) of two recent lessons. Both pupils were complaining of slicing the golf ball; does this sound familiar to you? By having the correct right wrist angle at address with the correct position of the right arm, the club can work squarely through the ball rather than across it which produces a slice. A straight right arm at address is one of the largest reasons for people slicing the ball.

August Stableford
Last Saturday saw the August Stableford held at Hassocks, with the course in perfect condition and fine weather to match. The scoring on the day reflected the good conditions the players enjoyed.
Paul Gumbrell led the field home with a fantastic score of 43 points. Despite his excellent performance, his winning margin was only one point, with Denis Nixon claiming second place. Joe Leonard finished in third place with 40 points. A special mention to Chris Riggs, Kevin Chester and Stuart Allbury who all finished with 39 points.
Following their competition performance, Paul (11) and Denis (18) both had their handicaps reduced by one shot. As a result of the good scores the competition standard scratch decrease by one shot from 69 to 68.
Night Golf
We are looking to arrange a Night Golf evening on Friday, 30 September before winter sets in. We will need to purchase the equipment so I'm looking for possible numbers. Please show your interest ASAP on the sheet on the main board. The plan for the evening will be meet at 8:00pm in the club for a beer and food (possibly a chilli), then play night golf and back to the bar after. Depending on numbers the cost will be approx £20 per head. Please show your interest soon so we can order the glow sticks in time.
