Callaway Epic Driver
Hopefully you all read last week's newsletter (shame on you if you didn't!!) and know we have now received our demo fitting kit for the highly anticipated Callaway Epic Driver, this is before its worldwide launch on the 27th January.
During the course of the last week I undertook our first custom fit session with the new club - and it did not disappoint. Paul Field, former member at Hassocks GC and a 2 handicapper was previously using a TaylorMade 2016 M2. After trying both model heads, the Epic and the Epic Sub Zero, plus numerous custom fit shaft options, the best combination for Paul was the Epic head (9 Deg) with the Project X HZRDUS shaft. As you can see from the figures below Paul produced some excellent numbers and achieved an average distance gain of 26 yards!
The only bad news for Paul is he now has to wait until the 27th to receive his new club!

Epic Driver On Tour
Please see below some information provided from Callaway's Tour department this week. It shows the performance benefit their staff players have achieved from putting the Epic Driver in play.
They have achieved an average distance gain of 14.7 yards, with a maximum gain of 22 yards.
It is also worth noting, these players would have been custom fit for their driver previously. If your driver hasn't been custom fitted your performance gain could be even greater!

January Midweek Medal
Last Tuesday the January Midweek Medal was held at the golf club. Congratulations to Matt Platt who returned victorious with an excellent score of nett 66. Second place was collected by Olly Cook with a superb gross 72, nett 67. Alex Mullins, not wanting to miss out on being mentioned during this week's newsletter, finished with a fine gross 71, nett 68, to take the final step on the podium.
A very well played to you all. The competition standard scratch, surprisingly, decreased by one shot to 68 on the day, despite this Matt's handicap was reduced by one shot from 15 to 14 (14.2).
Very long term Hassocks Member Mike Trowbridge recorded the only 2 during the competition and scooped the pot of £32 in the process, it's great to see Mike back competing in the comps.
