The Real Product Test Continued - Irons

Name: James Rogers
Handicap: 18
Club: Mannings Heath
Duration: 3 years
Playing for: 6 years
Current Irons: TaylorMade PSi 1

All irons are 7 irons and have a stiff steel shaft

PING G Series

Nice looking - I prefer a thicker top line, it gives the impression it is going to help - especially with distance. I view PING as a brand that is going to help you. It feels solid and it looks like you could hit it out of any lie.

PING i200

I really like the look - The thinner top edge and a satin finish. It is a good looking clean club but I don't like the 7 stamp on the head, it looks a little bit too much like a blade - they don't fill me with confidence!

TaylorMade M2 - 2017

It looks nice - again thicker top line. It has a nice finish to the head Iand I like the face slots on the face - I feel it really helps with my alignment. It looks good at address and it has the feel of a club that could be used by a better player but also a beginner.

TaylorMade M1 - 2017

A slightly thicker top edge than the M2 - slightly surprising. Very similar aesthetically to the M2 - no preference and I like Taylormade as a brand. Again, really like the face slots , it feels like you get more forgiveness on off centre hits  and it was consistently good. A definite preference to M2.

Titleist AP1

It looks very no frills - slightly old fashion - doesn't suit my eye but I could understand why someone would like the look. It has a good weight and Titleist have a very good name, but I don't think I would buy the club from looks and feel.

Callaway XR Steelhead

The club instantly feels a little heavier - not a bad thing. At address it has a thicker top line and the club clubs sits very square. It is a nice feeling club, it feels very solid, butoesn't feel as forgiving as the other clubs, you need to be a little more precise. Lovely club but feels unforgiving - no room for error but really nice to hit.

Callaway Apex

It has a different finish - I like the satin finish to the head, it seems to help with club head alignment at address. It is a nice feeling club and it has a slightly thinner top edge. It is Probably the best looking club in the test so far - Really clean looking, really nicely weighted and it feels like the better play could use the club too.
