Congratulations to Greg Matthews on winning the June Midweek Stableford with a score of 41 points. Gary Clark finished second with 39 points, beating Stuart Measor who finished third on count back. Tom Aye-Moung and Paul Gumbrell both recorded a two on the day and spilt the two's pot.
US Open
Martin Kaymer recorded his second major championship victory last week at Pinehurst Golf Course. He became the fourth player in the last 20 years to win a second major championship before the age of 30, one wonders how many more are to follow. He also became the first player to win The Players Championship and The US Open in the same season.
What can WE learn from Martin Kaymer's success?
After winning his first major championship (The US PGA) and becoming world number one he tried to change his natural shot shape. Kaymer has always played with a fade, wanting to taste victory at Augusta he tried to change his swing to allow him to shape the ball from right to left (a draw). Unfortunatley this lead to a loss of form and a slip down the world rankings. Kaymer has since gone back to his original game and recaptured his form with great success.
We all play golf in a different way, we all need to understand the strengths and weaknesses of our own game and work within that. Don't try and play somebody elses game, concentrate on improving what you already have rather than starting from the beginnning. This is the philosophy I approach when coaching.
Kaymer used the TaylorMade SLDR driver with great effect all week. TaylorMade had 55 drivers (35% of the field) in play at Pinehurst, staking the claim to be the number 1 driver brand at the US Open for the 14th consecutive year. Why not try the driver that won the US Open yourself? Ask to borrow the demo the next time you play or book a fitting by Clicking Here.
Martin Kaymer wore the new Adidas Gripmore shoes, as was defending US Open Champion Justin Rose. An evolution in golf footwear, gripmore technology is an innovation in golf footwear cleat design that combines the performance benefits of spiked and spikeless footwear into one technonlogy. Gripmore cleats are directly injected onto a lightweight matting for even more traction and stability.
Adidas Gripmore shoes are now available from the Pro-Shop. You can find out more about the shoe here.
