Putting Fitting - Tomi Putt Lab
This week Stuart Silverlock came to the swing studio for a putter fitting. Stuart, who plays off a handicap of 6, felt he was a good putter but simply wanted to hole more putts, don't we all!? Having had the rest of his bag custom fitted, he was aware the club he used the most hadn't been. Does this sound familiar to you?
By using our Tomi Putt Lab system we are able to record all key elements of the putting stroke: alignment at address and impact, path at impact, rotation of the club head, shaft angle, impact spot, speed at impact, stroke tempo and most importantly of all stroke path.
- The stroke path your putter takes (or stroke type) should be directly linked to the putter style you use.
- If you have a straight back straight through putting stroke you should use a face balanced putter - most mallets will be faced balance.
- If you have a putting stroke with a slight arch you should be using a putter with slight toe hang.
- If you have a putting stroke with a strong arch you should be using a putter with a heavy toe hang. Do you know what stroke type you are? Are you using a putter suited to your stroke type?
Not sure!? Click here to book a fitting to find out.
By using all the data available to me during the fitting I recommended Stuart used a mallet putter to help with his stroke path. We recorded an instant improvement in his stroke and also his accuracy, he started to hole more putts. After trying several mallets from Scotty Cameron, Odyssey, PING and TaylorMade Stuart decided on the TaylorMade Red Spider - as used by Sergio Garcia to win The Masters.

May Stableford
Congratulations to
Adam Shaw on winning the Men's May Stableford. Adam returned a fantastic score of 41 points. David Green claimed second spot on 39 points with the battle for third place going to countback. Emerging victorious in that battle, with a better back nine of 19 points v 18 points, was Danny Burchell, beating Matt Platt onto the final step of the podium. Well played to you all.
The competition standard scratch remained unchanged on the day, this meant Adam had his handicap reduced by 2 shots from 18 to 16.
Adam and Danny continued their good day by both also recording a 2. The 2's pot was spilt three ways with Ian Martin recording the other 2 last Saturday. Each player shared the pot worth
£21.33 each.
