Congratulations to Martin Higgins on winning the June Monthly Stableford. Martin returned an impressive score of 44 points to win by one from Danny Burchell and Gary Pilling. Danny beat Gary into second place on count back through scoring a gross 66 to score his 43 points. This was made even more impressive as he played holes 2 to 9 in his socks! Danny forgot his shoes and borrowed a pair that was too small for him!
Martin's handicap was reduced by 2 shots to 24.0, well played Martin.
During the competition 2 players recorded an eagle on a par 4: Richard Copeland eagled the 15th and Greg Burt eagled the 18th. A further seven 2's were achieved during the competition, each 2 winning £11.11 from the 2's pot. The scoring on the day was exceptional, 10 players scored 40 points or over. As a result of this the competition standard scratch (CSS) was reduced by 1 shot to 67.
Congratulations to Rikki Hawkins who won the June Midweek Medal. Rikki returned a nett 64 to win the competition by one shot. Tom Aye-Moung finished 2nd with a gross 68 nett 65, a fantastic round of golf that recorded 16 pars and 2 birdies. Paul Gumbrell completed the top 3 with a nett 66, winning on count back from Gareth Agar and Stuart Allbury. Rikki had his handicap reduced by one shot to 14.0.
The two's pot was shared by Gareth Agar (10th), Tim Osman (6th) and Nigel Packham (6th). I personally took great delight in seeing Rikki win the competition. Rikki has been striking the golf ball very well recently but has been suffering with his putting. Rikki had a putting lesson last week and made huge improvements instantly. Following more hard work and practice he put his new technique to the test in the competition, to great effect.

Over the last few weeks I have noticed a growing trend amongst my lessons - the appalling state of the grips on their golf clubs. I will not name any names in the newsletter but you all know who you are!!
What condition are your grips in? Are your grips shinny to the eye or slippery? Do your grips have wear marks on or indentations? Are your grips over two years old?
If you answered yes to any of the previous questions then you probably need your golf clubs re-gripped. Next time you are at the golf club come into the Pro-Shop and we can check them for you.
Whilst there, take the time to check out our Grip Wall. We have a huge selection of grips available. All prices include the cost of fitting the grips and discounts are available when re-gripping a whole set. The whole process can be completed within 24 hours.
A new set of grips can transform a set of golf clubs, with prices starting from only £5 per club.
I'm delighted to be able to announce our annual TaylorMade Demo Day.
For the first time ever the demo day will be held at the weekend, taking place on Saturday 26th July. The day will run from 10.30am until 3.30pm.
This is a great opportunity for you to try out, and get fitted for, the latest equipment from a brand that has seen Martin Kaymer storm to victory in the US Open using their clubs.

During the week Matt Hutchinson (Head Greenkeeper) and I re-measured the golf course. The new tees on the 2nd and 9th hole have been top dressed and seeded; the grass has already started to germinate. I'm hopeful that the two tees will be in play for at least one competition before the end of the year. The new tee on the 4th hole has now been built and work will continue on it during the summer, this tee will not be in-play until next year.
The new white tees have added a huge amount of yardage to the course. The four new tees on the front nine have added 254 yards to the card: 2nd - 27 yards, 4th - 117 yards, 7th - 38 yards and 9th - 72 yards.
After the work is completed on all the new tees the golf course will be re-assessed by the Sussex County Golf Union, I'm very hopefully the SSS will be readjusted to reflect the true difficulty of the golf course. At this time the club will also readjust the stroke indexes of each hole.
