Journey to Work
Life as a golf pro is never predictable, which is one of the many reasons I love my job. However, this morning (Thursday) was very unusual indeed. Whilst trying to get to work this morning I found a rather large tree blocking the A273, the main road between Pyecombe and Hassocks Golf Clubs. A road I use numerous times on an average day!
Whilst the boys in blue closed the road, the Greenkeepers from Pyecombe Golf Club and the local farmer commenced work on clearing the fallen tree. After almost an hour with some very large chain saws and a tractor the road was cleared and the traffic jams cleared, I'm sure many of you got stuck.

Wedge Wear v Performance
A few weeks ago I highlighted 'wedge wear' v performance in my newsletter. Please read below for anyone who missed it...
The Titleist Vokey Research & Development team recently tested 3 levels of groove wear using a wedge robot at their Manchester Lane test facility. These are the results of the test:
A Vokey Wedge after 125 rounds of play achieved: 6500 RPM / 35 degrees launch = 24 feet of stopping power
A Vokey Wedge after 75 rounds of play achieved: 7500 RPM / 34 degrees launch = 18 feet of stopping power
A Vokey Wedge with Fresh Grooves achieved: 8500 RPM / 33 degrees launch = 10 feet of stopping power
The results make very interesting reading - how worn are you grooves? Do you ever suffer from your golf ball running through the back of the green or not stopping quick enough? Could this be the reason why?
A fresh Vokey will stop twice as quick as a wedge that has played 125 rounds!
Recently Rob Seabrook has purchased a new set of wedges having seen the article and realised the performance benefit he was losing. Rob's old wedges below show a perfect example of the 3 stages of wear often seen on forged wedges - do these look familiar? Can you recognise this in your clubs?
Rob is delighted with his new Titleist Vokey wedges and has now witnessed the increased stopping power and control he has in his short game.
Could this help your game? We have demo Vokey wedges available to try, take one out and see and feel the performance benefit first hand.
See below the perfect answer to improve your short game - just like Rob!

Do you know…
Jordan Spieth changes his wedges once a month!! He feels the performance / spin rate drops after only 4 weeks.

June Medal
Congratulations to Matt Platt who continued the excellent scoring in recent competitions to claim the June Monthly Medal. Matt returned with a fantastic gross 79 nett 65 to win the competition. 'Lord' Chris Mullins finished one behind with his nett 66 to take second spot. Fellow long term Hassocks member Colin Gush completed the top three with a nett 67, beating Tom Aye-Moung on countback.
Tom made up for the disappointment of finishing fourth by scooping a 2 during his round, this was matched by only one other player - Paul Gumbrell. Both received £24 for their efforts. Well played all.
