This week we bring you a perfect illustration of what the course and club have been up against with the weather, bring you the winner of my Swing Studio promotion and we look at the new equipment from TaylorMade.

Course news

A perfect illustration

I start off this week’s newsletter with news from the golf course. As a perfect illustration to show the extent of the weather we have received recently – this is perfect from the driving range. The heavy rain, which has saturated the ground, and the high winds brought down a huge Oak tree on the driving range. I’m pleased to report no lessons were being given at the time!

Unfortunately our teaching bay is beyond repair and will be pulled down shortly.

Course

Whilst the weather has been very harsh this winter the course has now started to recover and dry out. The course is open today with the start of February now here, hopefully Spring is just around the corner!

And the Winner is…

In October we started a promotion to mark the opening of the Swing Studio at Pyecombe. We introduced an amazing special offer; win a set of clubs for FREE. Introducing Twist Face

Hot on the heels from Callaway’s Rogue equipment delivery last week I’m excited to inform you we have now taken full delivery of Taylormade’s M3 & M4 custom fit product. Prior to its global launch at retail we have a full custom fit selection of Drivers, Fairways, Hybrids and Irons.

The new Drivers have already made an impact on Tour with Jason Day winning at Torrey Pines last weekend using a Taylormade M3 440 Driver. The new technology comes with ‘Twist Face’, which is designed to make off centre hits fly straighter – sounds very appealing!

Taylormade have also introduced ‘Hammer Head’ into their latest drivers, designed to stop the sole and the crown of the golf club separating at impact to create greater energy transfer into the ball – creating more distance.

But, don’t just take our word for it.

Less than 12 hours after we received the custom fitting equipment we were in the swing studio for a session. The new technology didn’t disappoint as you can see from this picture.

Escape the wet this winter

Would you like to stay out of the cold whilst you practice this winter? Did you know you can hire the swing studio for personal use? You can use the driving range software or play one of the world’s top golf courses. The first hour costs £20 and every hour after the first, on the same day, costs only £10. The hire is based on time and not the number of golfers.

It's a game of fine margins

A yard further and your ball’s resting on the green rather than in the greenside bunker. Five millimetres closer to the centre of the face and it might fly the water rather than make a splash landing. A little less pace on your putt and the ball takes the break and falls into the centre of the cup.

Fine margins in golf

Golf is a game of fine margins, which means every decision you make is an important one. You wouldn’t go from one round to the next playing with different clubs - sometimes new, sometimes old, sometimes slightly damaged – so why do that with your golf ball? Considering it’s the only constant you have on every shot, it can really pay off to use the same model if you want to improve your consistency.

Two to consider
Before you settle on your ball of choice, here are two great models worth trying for a round or two.
