Welcome to another edition of our newsletter. In this week’s mail, we take a look at how sightlines can help you hole more putts, how choosing the right ball for your game can lead to lower scores, as well as a look at how players from both Ryder Cup teams are shaping up ahead of the tournament. Enjoy the read. |
A gross 66 is not good enough! Congratulations to Stephen Penn who won the September Stableford the Saturday before last. Stephen returned a fabulous 42 points to win the competition on countback, his back nine of 20 points enough to claim victory. Second place was claimed by current Club Champion Danny Durchell, who fired a gross 66 playing off his handicap of 2 for 42 points. Unfortunately his amazing round wasn’t enough for victory. Danny was actually a little disappointed with his round. After four birdies in a row from the 7th to the 10th Danny was 6-under-par for only 10 holes! Ross Knowlson claimed the final step on the podium with a fine 40 points, beating Syd Fisher on countback with his better back six holes.

Staff vs. Seniors' Match
Keith ‘Tiger’ Cowley, former Seniors' Captain, created a new event for 2018 – The Staff vs Seniors Challenge match. The match, with the format selected by the Seniors' team, was played on a lovely summer evening over nine holes. The Seniors team, hand-picked by Keith and the Seniors' Captain Andy Glover, was full on bandits and players in red-hot form! By contrast the Staff’s team was depleted by injury, sickness and absence. Unfortunately for the Staff this meant a serious defeat to the ‘Grey Army’. Well played to all the Seniors. The golf was followed by a fun quiz in the clubhouse expertly arranged by John Franks. I’m pleased to report my quizzing skills on the night were better than my golf and my four ball of Brian Austin, Geoff Barden, Danny Burchell and I won the quiz.

The heat is on With the clock ticking down to the start of the Ryder Cup, all eyes are on the players who could make the difference at Le Golf National in Paris. The BMW Championship certainly gave us an insight into who’s shaping up nicely, with Keegan Bradley - who didn't make the USA Team - pipping Europe's Justin Rose to the title on the first play-off hole after both players finished on -20. It wasn't all bad news for Rose though, as finishing 2nd meant he became the world's number one golfer for the first time in his career. The conclusion of the BMW Championship also saw Jim Furyk make his final Captain's Pick for Team USA, opting for big-hitter Tony Finau - despite Xander Schauffele's fine finish at the BMW. Finau might not win many tournaments, but he is remarkably consistent and a huge hitter, with 11 top-10 finishes in 2018. Schauffele will feel hard done by, but is certainly one to look out for next season. Meanwhile, Europe Team Captain Thomas Bjorn may be ruing a missed opportunity to choose Matt Fitzpatrick as one of his wildcard picks, after the Englishman beat Denmark’s Lucas Bjerregaard in a play-off to win the Omega European Masters title in Switzerland. Fitzpatrick won the same tournament last year, and becomes the first golfer since the great Seve Ballesteros to defend the trophy – so he’s certainly following the right footsteps! |
New arrivals - Titleist TS2 and TS3 Two years after the launch of their last driver, I’m delighted to inform you we have now taken delivery of our custom fit product of Titleist’s latest offering – The TS2 and TS3. Prior to the global launch of the product we have drivers and fairways available for custom fitting and to demo on the course. What does the TS stand for? Titleist Speed – everything about this driver has been created to deliver more ball speed resulting in greater distance. What do Titleist have to say? "A mission to solicit speed from every detail of the driver, embarked on by a collection of uniquely-gifted R&D minds. The TS Project is a peerless pursuit of speed where every micron and milligram matter. It’s not one thing, it’s everything. Our new Speed Chassis is the result of a two-year mission to deconstruct the driver and then design greater speed into every detail." On initial testing the Driver does not disappoint. We have already taken 2 orders for the new TS2 driver. I have also tested the driver myself and witnessed a definite increase in ball speed. Trolley repair and service... I’m pleased to announce another service we are now able to offer you. As many of you will be aware the Golf Trolley Shop at Hickstead has now closed. This has meant we do not have a repair and service centre in the area. We have now entered a partnership with a company that means we can now offer this service to you. At Pyecombe a collection of faulty trollies will take place two out of three Thursdays. Simply drop your trolley off with us and we will call you when it is ready to collect.

Sightlines on putters might seem like a nice design, but they are there for a reason as they help you aim your putts more accurately, and help you centre the ball on your putter. But with so many different styles, it can be hard to know which one will aid you the most. |
It’s up to you If you prefer a more modern look, why not try the TP Red-White Ardmore 3? Alignment is improved considerably thanks to the red-white contrast, which helps golfers envision a proper path from the ball to the hole. Various head shapes with different sightlines in the Ardmore range means there'll be a sightline to suit every golfer's eye. |
|
Something different Alternatively, the Spider Tour from TaylorMade is certainly for those who prefer a larger head. This putter's used by some of the world's very best golfers, such as Jason Day and Dustin Johnson. A recent addition is the sightline on the crown, helping to dial in your focus over every putt as well as act as an extension to the line on your ball when lining up your putts. |
