Charity Update
Last week Richard Copeland (Club Captain 2012/2013) received a letter from the Sussex and Kent Air Ambulance; the Club's chosen charity for Richard's year as captain. The fantastic sum of £5,050 was raised by the club during the year and the letter expressed their thanks for the contribution for the fantastic work the charity carries out:
'Thank you very much for your fantastic donation of £5,050 raised through various activities as part of your fundraising year. It is so kind of you to think of supporting the air ambulance and we are very grateful to Richard Copeland for choosing to fundraise for our charity during his 2012/2013 captaincy.
I hope that your fundraising year on behalf of the air ambulance was an enjoyable experience for all the members. I know that a lot of time and hard work has gone into organising your fundraising events so please pass on my grateful thanks to everyone involved in raising such a great amount.
People like you make it possible for us to continue to provide life-saving service in your county, as we rely on donations and fundraising to enable us to pay for our helicopter, crew, medical equipment, supplies and training - everything that is needed to bring an A&E service to those who need it'.
Captains' Drive-In and Autumn Meeting
Congratulations to Paul Mayes who started his year as Captain by hitting the opening shot of the Autumn Meeting.
Paul was joined in 'driving-in' by fellow new captains: Sally Johnson (Ladies' Captain), Keith Cowley (Seniors' Captain) and Lucas Durrant (Junior Captain). All four captains hit superb tee shots down the first hole, I know, a huge relief to them all.
Congratulations to Richard Copeland who won the Autumn Meeting with a fantastic score of gross 71 (nett 62). Lee Preston claimed second place just one shot behind. Andy Taylor beat regular playing partner Denis Nixon into third place on countback, with both players returning a nett 64.
The scoring on the day was exceptional with the top 20 players all returning a score under their handicap. Despite this the competition standard scratch score remained unchanged at 68. Richard had his handicap reduced by one shot following his win from 9 to 8 (7.8). Lee Preston, Andy Taylor and Denis Nixon all had their handicaps reduced by 2 shots following their brilliant rounds.
The best gross score of the day was won by Tom Aye-Moung. Tom returned a very impressive score of level par (70), made even more impressive because he scored an eight on the par four seventh hole. Tom repaired his round by covering the back nine in only 30 shots. Second place was claimed by Richard Copeland on 71, Graham Snelgrove claimed third place with a gross score of 72.
Four 2's were recorded during the competition with Howard Burt making two of them, congratulations Howard. The other 2's were achieved by Scott Kemsley and Bob Shrieves-Yeates. Each two was worth £21.50.
Captains' Drive-In - 'Guess the Drive' Competition Winners
The members below correctly guessed the location of the Captains' Tee Shots and won a share of the money collected. £33.50 was also raised for the Captains' Charity.

The annual match between the Men's and the Ladies' sections was held last Sunday. The battle of the sexes was competed with the same level of determination as always, with the men winning the converted 'Rolling Pin' trophy 4-1.
