4 Club Challenge
Congratulations to Rob Temple-Smithson on winning the 4 Club Challenge on 28th December. The competition rules state only 3 clubs plus a putter can be used. Rob (pictured below) finished with a very good score of 34 stableford points in very difficult conditions. Rob won the competition by one point from Paul Gumbrell. Paul is becoming known as a specialist in this event having won the competition before. Ian Leeves completed the top three with a score of 32 points beating Matt Roberts on count back. Congratulations to Tim Cattaneo and Paul Gumbrell who recorded the only 2's during the competition, each 2 was worth £19.
New Year Plate
Congratulations to Rikki Hawkins on winning the New Year Plate. Rikki (pictured above) returned a fantastic score of 39 points to claim victory by one point from Nigel Swinscoe. Chris Riggs completed the top three with a score 37 points. The competition standard scratch score reflected the difficulty of the playing conditions by increasing by 2 shots to 70. Following his competition performance Rikki had his handicap reduced by one shot to 13.7. There were no 2's recorded on the day and the 2's pot was donated to the Captain's Charity.
Martin Range
Last Friday former Captain, on two occasions, Martin Range's funeral was held at Downs Crematorium. On a beautiful day numerous members said their goodbyes to Martin. The attendance showed the popularity of Martin with many people standing through the service. Martin will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with his wife Elizabeth. Following the service Martin's life was celebrated in good style at his favourite pub in Burgess Hill, the Watermill.
