May Stableford
Congratulations to Brian Austin who won the May Monthly Stableford last weekend. Brain returned a fantastic score of 41 points to win the competition. Martin Higgins claimed second place with 39 points beating Stuart Allbury on countback. The more observant of you will have noticed all three players have signed up for the Game Improvement Champion programme above. Unfortunately I cannot claim any credit for their performances as they had not started their lessons. Clearly the threat of lessons worked wonders! Four twos were achieved on the day. Well done to Wade Ayling, Martin Higgins, John Franks and Bob Shrieves-Yeates. Each player shared to pot worth £18 each. The competition standard scratch score remained unchanged on the day - 69.
May Midweek Medal
Paul Gumbrell returned to the clubhouse late on Tuesday afternoon following his round to claim victory from the clubhouse leader Tom Aye-Moung. Paul won the competition by the smallest margins, beating Tom on countback. Both players finished with scores of nett 68. Simon Friend took the last place on the podium with a score of nett 70. Paul capped his good day by recording the only two during the competition. Paul won the roll-over pot which stood at £60. The competition standard scratch score was reduced by one shot to 68.
Mike Haselip Memorial
The Mike Haselip Memorial Shield was held last Monday by the Senior Section of the club. Mike was a former Captain of the Seniors before he passed away. The event was very well attended given the poor weather conditions. The competition was won by Ken Smith with an amazing (given the conditions) 37 points. This was also a Seniors' Charity event which raised on the day a total of more than £290. It was a pleasure for the club to welcome our guests for the day - James and Jean Haselip. It was also fantastic to have two Whoopsadaisy representatives (Caroline Matanle and Sue) at the presentation and for the kind and very grateful words to us all at Hassocks GC for our fundraising efforts.
I'm delighted to announce the news that we have appointed a new Head Greenkeeper. Alastair MacGadie will be joining us from Burhill Golf Club. Alastair brings with him a wealth of experience; he was previously worked in America, Australia and also high profile English golf courses such as The London Club, The Wisley and currently Burhill. Please wish Alastair all the best when you meet him.
