Hello golfer,
In this week's Hassocks newsletter we saygoodbye to a member of staff, we hear from theClub Captain and I come across something I'venever seen before. Enjoy the read.
New Adventures
I'm saddened to announce the newsthat after five years of fantastic service tothe golf club and its members, Lee Baker will beseeking new adventures. Lee, wife Louisa andyoung daughter Delilah have made the bravedecision to move to Spain, where hewill continue his passion for coaching in thesun with several opportunities available to him.
I would like to personally thank Lee for all hishard work and efforts over the years. I will notonly be losing a respected member of staff butalso a very good friend. I'm sure you will joinme in wishing him the very best of luck in hisnew life.
Do new clubs really make a difference?
This is a question I'm often asked… quite simplythe answer is YES!
Lastweekend I custom fitted Derek Bamentfor a new set of irons and the results wereremarkable. Derek was using a set of graphiteirons that were 17-years-old (or from the lastmillennium). We started the session in the SwingStudio by recording the performance of hisexisting irons. After trying numerous heads fromseveral manufacturers and many different shaftoptions, we settled on TaylorMade'sRSi 1 irons in graphite. After customisingthe length, lie, loft, shaft and grips theperformance gain was the largest I have everseen:
Astaggering 34 yards increase on average 7-irondistance
Asyou can see below, Derek's average 7-irondistance was 124 yards, with the new customfitted iron it measured 158 yards.
Agood craftsman never blames his tools…. True
But would a good craftsman use bad tools tostart with?
Whatdifference would 34 yards make to your game? Tobook a custom fit please click here.
I'm glad to see the sun out and the coursefirming up nicely. The forecast is good and Ihope that we will have a great day this Sundayfor the Hassocks Ryder Cup.It's great to see so many names down for thefirst event of the new season, from my point Iam hoping to keep up the tradition of theCaptain's side prevailing over the Pro's.
Summer Matchplay League
This Summer I want to create a new MatchplayLeague table. It will be open to all members ofall sections of the club. Anyone signing up (£6entry) will be able to play against any othermember that has signed up. You can choose tosign-up at any stage over the Summer but earlierthe better to get more games in giving you morechances to gain points. You can only play thesame opponent twice (to allow rematches forrevenge). You can play as many or as few matchesagainst the other participants as you wish overthe summer (April 1st till 31st August) on anyday you wish to arrange them and make use of thelong Summer evenings we are due…..I hope.
2 pointsfor a win - 1 point for a halved match - 0 fora loss
Handin your scorecard signed by both players toeither myself or the office so I can update theLeague Table that will be displayed in theclubhouse. I will provide a new annual trophyfor this and there will be prize money for 1st,2nd and 3rd places. Any profit created by thecompetition will go to the Captain's Charity -The Alzheimer's Society.
Easter Cup and Prizegiving
On Sunday, 27 March it is the Easter Cup. Thereare two competitions in one, as the ladies willbe joining us albeit with their own trophies. Iwould love to see as many members playing aspossible for the 1st Major of 2016. After thecompetition is the 1st prizegiving for 2016 soif you have won a Medal, Stableford or Knockoutsince September 2015 this is your chance to getyour recognition. I would like as many winnersthere after the Easter Cup and as many membersthere as possible to cheer them on.
