The last week has seen a lot of activity for our teams. Our exclusive team were drawn away to Crowborough Beacon in the first round of the competition. A very tough draw, Crowborough had never been beaten at home in this competition. Following two practice match defeats away from home at West Hove (3.5 v 2.5) and Rustington (4.5 v 1.5) the team produced a fantastic performance to win 3-2. Congratulations to Steve Wyatt (Team Captain) and his team. The winners on the day were Gary Pilling & Chris Riggs, Gareth Agar & Rikki Hawkins and Tim Cattaneo & Mark Simmons. We have received a home draw in the next round of the competition v Boars Head on Saturday 17th May. The team are trying to win the competition again having won the trophy in 2012.
Unfortunately the Optimus team suffered defeat away to West Sussex 8.5-3.5. An away draw to tough opposition proved too greater challenge for our scratch team. The point winners on the day were Danny Burchell & Simon Friend in the morning foursomes and Greg Kemsley and Simon Friend in the afternoon singles. Danny Burchell halved his afternoon singles match to win the additional half point. We are now entered into the draw for the plate competition.
Congratulations to Mike Hoodless who won the Seniors Stableford and Captains Trophy last Monday with 39 points. Ian Smith finished second on count back from Brain Austin with 37 points.

Having put up a strong performance at Mid Sussex, Caroline Littlejohn and Sheila Doughty came up against a strong single figure handicap pairing from Singing Hills in the Daily Mail competiton. Although the girls had home advantage, the Singing Hills pairing proved too strong and were winners of the second round.
Ann Austin and Madi Habens were the winners of the club round of the Australian Spoons competition. Unfortunately they are unavailable to proceed to the regional finals and therefore the second placed pairing of Olga Jeffs and Jennie Sands will go on to Dummer Golf Club in Hampshire in August. Good luck ladies.
Judith Leeves and Maureen Roberts won the club round of the Coronation Foursomes. We wait to hear where they will be playing in the next round.
Marian Smith was our representative at this year's Regional Medal Final. She played at Tyrrells Wood Golf Club, in Surrey, on 24th April. Along with her caddie, Maureen Roberts, the girls enjoyed a good day out.
Lee recorded a hole in one on the 10th hole last Friday morning. Starting at the 10th he achieved the ace with his first shot of the day. The hole in one was witnessed by playing partners Laurie Cassar and Nick Fleet (a fellow professional). Congratulations to Lee.

We all wish Lee luck with the imminent arrival of his first child. Lee's wife Louisa was due to give birth on 28th April, at the time of writing the newsletter the little one still hadn't arrived. If Lee appears a little tired over the coming months you now know why!
