Last Monday the seniors played their Club Championship with the golf course and the weather perfect for the occasion. In a strong field of 30 golfers, three players stole the show and all the prizes.
In the gross prize, hot favourite John Franks did not disappoint with a fine round of 75, winning the trophy from Glyn Pond-Barrett by a margin of four strokes. Completing the podium was Nigel Packham. Not wanting to allow anyone else any glory, the same three players finished in the top three for the nett competition too. Glyn returned a fabulous score of nett 64, which saw his handicap reduced by two shots from 15 to 13. John Franks finished second with a score of nett 66, which resulted in his handicap reducing from 9 to 8. Again, Nigel collected the bronze medal with a nett 68.

Captain's Charity Day
I would like to start with a massive thank you to all that played their part in what was a very successful day (even though the weather tried its hardest to spoil it). Thanks to all the ladies (including Liz Range's sister and Mark Page's wife) who ran the signing in, tombola and raffle. Thanks to the senior section for the wine for the nearest the pin and longest drives. Thanks to Mike for running the nearest the pin on the simulator too. Thank you to all that donated prizes and auction items and then bid for them in the evening. I have not got a final figure yet but believe it will be nearly £3000.
For those that were not there 10 minutes before the 1st tee time, we had a massive down pour which flooded the greens. Thankfully the greens drain really well (the course was in great condition thanks to the hard work of the greenkeepers) and after a 20-minute delay play started. Unfortunately after around four hours (just as I putted out on the 18th), a thunderstorm hit and we had to suspend play. Eventually most groups went back out and continued by the time the last group came in it was nearly dark. The winners on the day were:

Club Championships
This Saturday and Sunday sees the annual running of the Club Championships. Although I can't play due to having stitches in my back so not allowed to swing a club, I will be there to wave you off in morning and welcome you back in the evening.
After the last ball is struck on Sunday there will be a prizegiving, this will not only be for the Club Championship but will be for anyone who has won a Medal or Stableford or any other competition since the Easter Cup. Please come along and collect if you are expecting anything or lend your support to those that have.
As always during the Club Championship, I will be running the normal bet on the 10th. Both days I will be offering you the chance to double your money with a no lose bet! Place anything from £5 to £50 on hitting the green. If you miss the green, your stake money goes on your account in the shop and if you hit the green, double your stake money is placed on your account.
You really can't lose….
