Custom Fitting

I have spoken many times within my newsletter about the importance of being custom fitted for clubs and the huge benefits this has given many of you. With gains of over 30 yards achieved this year in distance and huge improvements in dispersion (how straight you hit it!)...

Can you afford not to?

So, hopefully, you now know why you should be custom fitted; but what is actually different from an 'off the shelf set'? Please see below everything we can alter in a set of irons to customise them to you, your game and your swing.

  • Loft - to make sure you're achieving optimised launch angle with each club
  • Lie (the angle between shaft and club head) - to make sure the leading edge/bottom of the club come through square to the ground
  • Length - customised to your height, wrist-to-floor measurement and your swing type
  • Grip Size- customised to your hand size and finger length
  • Grip Material - multi-compound, corded or rubber to match your preference
  • Shaft Material and Flex - to match your swing speed to maximise performance
  • Manufacturer's Model - Callaway, TaylorMade, PING or Titleist

What are the chances every one of the above factors being standard?

And, even if one or two are, how do you know if you haven't been custom fitted? Mike Willmott has recently been custom fitted for a set of Callaway XR OS irons and had the following to say:

'My new irons have made a huge difference to my game. I have regained the length I have lost over the last few years. The difference in distance over my old PING irons is extraordinary - 20 yards longer. I couldn't be happier with my new clubs, I would recommend being custom fitted with Mike in the swing studio to anyone.'

If you are thinking about new clubs then take the first step today and send me a message by clicking here. If you would like to see further evidence that custom fitted clubs make a difference please see the results of Max Smith in this week's Midweek competition. Max has recently been custom fitted for a new Callaway XR 16 driver and 3-wood plus three Callaway Mack Daddy 3 wedges.

Club news

Congratulations to Max Smith who won the August Midweek Medal last Tuesday with an excellent gross 74 (nett 65). Max won the competition by a comfortable margin of three shots over newly crowned club champion Tom Aye-Moung. Tom's handicap was reduced to three following his strong nett 68. Completing the podium with a nett score of 69 was Olly Cook. Well played to you all.

Junior news

Last week the junior section played their first competition of the summer holidays, the Founders Cup. Played in lovely weather with a good field of 10 juniors, the top three were:

1) Jamie Weller - 43 points
2) Dillon Watts - 38 points
3) Harry Nelson - 35 points

Pictured above are the junior section with their team shirts on, sponsored this by Craig Gabell of West Pier Studios - very smart. Yes - the junior organiser, Laurie Cassar, is the shortest one in the middle!

Captains news

With my year coming towards its close and me still being out injured, this year's Captain's Day will be a Texas Scramble. I am hoping to be able to at least take part with chipping and putting, if I can find a team that does not mind an invalid in their squad. There is a sign-up sheet on the main notice board. Please get you teams in as soon as possible, it costs £10 per head. Prize money for team prizes and there will be individual prizes for nearest the pin and longest drives as normal. After the game I would like to see you in the bar so I can buy you a drink. 1st tee will be 11:00am on Saturday, 27 August.

On our first attempt to host the Captain's Balls Up this year, we were greeted by a massive thunderstorm and floods so it was postponed until 6th July. Unfortunately, I was stuck in traffic in North West London but six members of the senior section braved the flying golf balls and the big fish in the pond between the 16th fairway and the 17th green. In two hours the brave divers (Tim O'Malley and Keith Cowley) managed to collect 1078 balls, they were ably assisted by Brian, Ian and Nick and my kids collecting and counting the balls as they came out the water. The winner of the ball sweep with a guess less than 20 out was Keith Fisher. I now have the mammoth task of cleaning all these balls and hopefully selling them to the pro shop for charity.
