The Benefits of Custom Fitting

This week I custom fitted Chris Openshaw for a set of new irons. Chris was using a set of Cobra irons he had purchased 15 years ago, which had been custom fitted at the time. Unfortunately as Chris has changed as a golfer (and he will not mind me saying has aged!) his golf clubs have become incorrect for him. His Cobra irons had steel shafts in stiff flex and were very heavy.

After trying several options in head and shaft combinations Chris' performance increased hugely. Chris was fitted for senior flex graphite shafts that are approximately half the weight of his current set (120g steel shaft Vs 60g graphite shaft).

Chris continued the popular trend we have started to see in the swing studio, by finding that the club that gave him the greatest performance benefit was the Callaway XR Steelhead iron. As you can see from the results below Chris' average distance he achieved with his seven iron increased by 18 yards! With his old 7 iron he averaged 115 yards with the new Callaway he achieved 133 yards. To put this into perspective that is a distance gain of 2 clubs!

Chris felt he regained the distance he has lost over the years and is now able to achieve the same distances he did 15 to 20 years ago.

TaylorMade M1 & M2 '17 

This week I've had the huge pleasure to see and hit the new TaylorMade product for 2017. Building on their massive success of 2016 will not be an easy achievement for TaylorMade, with many of the world's top professionals using the M1 and M2 metal woods currently. Both Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods have both been seen with TaylorMade product in their bags over the last couple of months.

I personally felt it would be very difficult for Taylormade to improve upon their performance significantly, having hit the new clubs in the swing studio on Monday I'm delighted to say I was wrong! I have been purring about the performance of the 2017 M1 driver to anyone who will listen this week!

I was amazed to see the performance benefits the clubs was achieving over their current product. The gains were both in distance but also forgiveness.

The clubs will be available from late January/early February, with our custom fit kit expected to be delivered in mid January. Start saving your money now, this is definitely a club you will want in your bag in 2017!
