Test Results
Yesterday I completed the first amateur product review. The product test took place in the swing studio at Hassocks. The first clubs to be reviewed by 'real golfers' were drivers. All drivers in the test were 9.5 degrees with regular flex shafts.
You've heard what all the golf companies have to say about their product now you can find out the truth.
Tester Name: Dave Adams
Handicap: 12 (Member at Lewes GC for 7 years)
Playing for: 45 years (on and off)
Current Driver: Callaway XR 16
Driver One: PING G
Comments: I like the matte finish of the black head, swings nicely and feels good, sits nicely behind the ball. I've had PINGs previously and it looks more appealing than previous models.
Driver Two: Callaway Fusion
Comments: Slightly different shape to normal which is not a bad thing, the whole club feels lighter, it has a different balance to other clubs but feels very good.
Driver Three: Taylormade M2 2017
Comments: Feels very good off the face although I would prefer a club head with one colour either black or white, not two tone; however the look of a club is worth 5%, so not overly important. Not quite as balanced as the Callaway Fusion, can feel the head more. Felt good.
Driver Four: Titleist 917 D2
Comments: Looks classy - like the gloss finish to the head. Feels very good.
Driver Five: Taylormade M1 2017
Comments: Feels similar to the M2 but also feels less forgiving than the M2. Looks a little more open at address. Preference in favour of M1 over M2 - feels better off the face but still don't really like the white.
Driver Six: Callaway GBB Epic (Standard Head - not Sub Zero)
Comments: Like the glossy finish and the green trim - looks very nice. Feels good and sits dead square at address. Can feel the head more when swinging and feels forgiving on off-centre hits.
The Results
Best Looking: Epic
Best Feeling: Titleist
Most likely to buy: I'm a Callaway man - Fusion
Reasons: I like the different head shape, how it sits and the balance
Longest Single Drive: 233 yards - Taylormade M1
Longest Average: PING and Epic - 224 yards
Straightest: Titleist
Dave's pick of 'Most likely to buy' is very interesting. It was not the longest, straightest, best looking or best feeling but a combination of all 4. It performed very well in all categories.

Modernising Golf's Rules
Last week the R&A proposed some key changes to the Rules of Golf from 2019. Their Rules Modernisation initiative has been underway for a few years now and this is the next stage in that process. The aim is to not only make the Rules easier to understand, but also to address some of the game's current problems, such as speed of play, and ensure they fit the needs of today's game.
Please spare a couple of minutes to complete our survey, which gives you the chance to have your say on the proposed changes.
We've picked out some of the most significant Rules changes for you to digest in this survey, before giving you the chance to say whether you agree or disagree with each of them. It'll be great to know your thoughts.
