Welcome to the first edition of my newsletter in 2018. A belated Happy New Year to you all.

What a start to the year it has been, the rain felt biblical at times. I’m pleased to say I’ve now been able to put the ark building on hold and the return to being a golf pro.

Whilst the golf course was shut over the Christmas and New Year period it has now started to drain with the recent dry weather. The course is now fully open and recovering well, with the forecast mainly dry for the next week hopefully we will see many of you at the club.

In this week’s newsletter we have news of the January Sale, New Arrivals from FootJoy, information of a new product launch as well as lesson news.

 
Coaching news

Lesson Success

What better way to start the New Year than to play better golf. An easy New Year resolution to make but not necessarily an easy one to keep. I’m delighted to be able to share with you three people who have managed this.

Matt Harper returned with 41 points to win the Heath Salver and have his handicap reduced to 5.5. This now means Matt’s handicap has gone from 8.2 to 5.5 since Sunday, 30 July 2017.

Cahel Logan scored 43 points in this week’s Mid-Week stableford (at Pyecombe) and had his handicap cut from 22 to 20 in the process.

Finally, and not wanting to be outdone, Mike Preston-Roberts amassed 48 points last weekend (a staggering 28 points on the back nine) and had his handicap cut by three shots from 20 to 17.

Junior news

Brighton Junior Golf

Our JOLF Spring term begins on Sunday, 15 January at Pyecombe Golf Club. We run sessions for children aged 4-11 so if you have children, grand children or know people who would be interested in getting involved then let them know.

Custom Fitting

Custom fitting is essential
Here in the pro shop, we have both the expertise and tools to be able to offer you a full custom fit.

We often come across a common misconception that custom fitting is only for low handicap players, but this couldn’t be further from the truth.

The more you struggle with distance and accuracy, the more there is to gain from playing clubs that are fitted to your swing; from longer carries and tighter dispersions to more consistent strikes. We also find that people really enjoy trying new equipment and learning about their swings, which often results in them being fitted for something completely different to what they’d expected at the beginning.

The new standard for wedge performance

Those of you on social media may have seen that Callaway has just announced their new wedge for 2018: Mack Daddy 4.

In brief, the MD4 comes with micro-ridges and micro-grooves on the club face, which provide surface roughness to increase spin significantly on a variety of shots. In addition, Callaway say this wedge produces the most satisfying feel they've ever accomplished in a wedge. Surely it's worth a try?
