I would like to take this opportunity to remind everybody of their responsibility when playing the golf course. Hassocks Golf Course has several public footpaths that run through or along the boundary of the property; it is every golfer's responsibility to ensure the safety of all users of the public footpaths. It has come to my attention we had a very near-miss on the 10th hole last week. Golfers should make sure that any users of the footpaths are out of range before playing.
August Medal
Congratulations to Lee Murray who won the August Medal with a fantastic round of nett 63. Lee tasted victory by one shot from Simon Brant. This was Simon's first competitive round of golf since suffering a suspected heart attack last month, I'm pleased to report Simon is well and it clearly hasn't affected his golf game! Geoff Fox finished in third place with a great round of net 65. Geoff recently made me a promise that his name would feature in the newsletter! Geoff took advantage of the half price lesson promotion at the start of last month and his game has improved dramatically since. Congratulations Geoff on keeping your word and your result!
Despite the very good scoring in tough breezy conditions the competition standard scratch score was 68. Lee had is handicap reduced by 3 shots on Sunday! 2 shots from the competition result from 14 to 12 (12.2) and a further 1 shot reduction from an exceptional score reduction.
No 2's were scored on the day; therefore it is a roll-over to the next competition on Sunday 7th September - Stableford.
Medal Matchplay Knockout
The draw for the Winter Medal Matchplay Knockout will take place at the end of August with the matches commencing from the start of September. Please enter in the office with myself or Jennie. Cost of entry is £6 per person.

The junior section received a special thank you letter from the club's nominated charity - The paediatric Diabetes Fund - last week. The junior section received £300 from Dockerill's for winning the Brighton Junior League last year; all of which they kindly donated to the club's charity. The letter from the charity read...
'It is indeed a terrific achievement for the junior section of Hassocks Golf Club to come first in the Dockerill's Junior League. Please convey our hearty congratulations to the entire team. More importantly we have been touched by the incredible generosity of the Junior Team in donating their winnings to the Children's Diabetes Charity. The money donated to the Paediatric Diabetes Charity is utilised for the patent activities associated with diabetes. A chronic and long term condition which requires a high level of invasive monitoring and treatment.'

Thank you to everyone who attended the Odyssey Putter Fitting Weekend that took place at the golf club last weekend. Many people were fitted for new Odyssey putters over the weekend and many more took part in the putting competition.
It was very interesting to see how many people knew their 'Stroke Type' (Straight, Slight Arch or Strong Arch) - very few and what style of putter they should be using to match their stroke. The added alterations to length, loft and lie fully customised every individual putter.
If you would like to know more about what putter you should be using please click here to book a fitting.
Congratulations to James Thompson (pictured here)who won the putting competition. James recorded a fantastic score of 5 under for the 12 hole putting course.
James won by 1 shot from Tim Terry, he used his own Odyssey 2 -Ball with great results. James won a dozen Callaway golf balls for his efforts.
