As you may have seen previously, we are running our Annual Customer Survey on our website. This survey will be used to help us improve the services we offer you in store. Not only that, but if there are brands which you are looking to buy but do not see in store then this is your chance to tell us!

We would like to use this part of our newsletter to ask you, if you haven't already done so, to spare five minutes of your time to complete this survey - simply click here. It will not only be an asset to us, but it will also be of huge benefit to you, our customers. Every person who completes the survey will go into a free prize draw and the winner will receive a dozen TaylorMade Tour Preferred golf balls. Our thanks in advance.

Congratulations to Colin Gush who won the September Stableford last Sunday with a fantastic score of 42 points. Colin recorded victory on count back from Lee Preston. Completing the top three was junior Lloyd Durrant with 41 points. Lloyd claimed third place from Paul Field on count back, Paul scored a gross 69 with a bogey on the 18th to return his 41 points playing off a handicap of 4.

The competition standard scratch reflected the good scoring on the day and reduced by one shot to 67. 21 players recorded a score of 36 points or better. Colin had his handicap reduced by one shot to 13 (12.8) following his competition win.

The 2's competition was shared by 7 winners - Wade Ayling, Chris Cole, Ross Emmins, Paul Field, Scott Kemsley, Charlie Mayhew and Bob Shrieves-Yeates. The winners shared a roll-over pot worth £174, each player receiving £24.85 each.

Seniors' September Medal

Congratulations to Dick Crutcher who continued his excellent recent form and won the Seniors' September Medal last Monday. Dick returned a fantastic score of nett 64 to win the competition by one shot from David Pickford. Completing the top three was Ken Smith with a nett score of 66.

The competition standard scratch remained the same at 68. Dick had his handicap reduced by 2 shots following the competition, he had his handicap reduced by one shot for his performance in the competition and by one shot for his recent exceptional scores. This is the second time in the last month Dick's handicap had been reduced by an exception score reduction, reflecting his recent play. Dick's handicap has reduced from 23 at the end of May to 18 at the start of September, congratulations Dick.

September Midweek Medal

Chris Blake won the September Midweek Medal with a nett score of 67. Chris tasted victory by one shot from Stuart Allbury. Stuart claimed second place on count back from Paul Bristow. Congratulations Chris. The competition standard scratch remained unchanged on the day - 68. Chris had his handicap reduced by one shot to 18 (18.2).

Steve has implemented a new selection process for this year's matches. The selection will be based on the following:

  1. Recognising recent form and participation in club weekend competitions
  2. Winners from the last Parafix match
  3. Reserves from the last Parafix match
  4. Balancing the team with a range of different handicaps

The team and reserves will be posted 10 days before the fixture on the competition board, emails will also be sent to the individuals selected for the team. Watch out of the team news and results in the newsletter.

Personal congratulations to Dick Crutcher and Chris Blake on their recent competition wins. Dick had a lesson at the start of the summer to overcome the problems he was experiencing with his driving. Following the lesson Dick has put into practice the alterations to his old technique with great effect, as stated earlier. Chris had been struggling with his irons and approach play to the green. After his lesson, very recently, Chris has seen an instant improvement in his performance. This reflected in his handicap reduction and his competition win.

If you would like to have a lesson to improve a part of your game please contact us here.

How well do you know the rules of golf?

During last weekend's competition two rule queries were raised, would you know the ruling if the following events happened to you?

1. During a competition you play from the wrong tee markers. You play from the yellow tees instead of the whites.

Answer: Rule 11 - 4 b. If a competitor, when starting a hole, plays a ball from outside the teeing ground, he incurs a penalty of two strokes and must then play a ball from within the teeing ground. The stroke from outside the teeing ground does not count.

2. During a competition you play the wrong ball.

Answer: Rule 15 - 3 b. If a competitor makes a stroke or strokes at a wrong ball, he incurs a penalty of two strokes. The competitor must correct their mistake by playing the correct ball or by proceeding under the rules. Strokes made by a competitor with a wrong ball do not count to their score.

If there are any rules you are unsure on or would like clarifying please contact us here and I will address these next week.

Charity

Finally I am delighted to report that so far this year, the Hassocks Ladies Section has just broken through the £700 barrier in monies raised for this year's charity. This is a fantastic effort by the ladies considering how small a section we are. Many thanks to all those who have contributed either by donating money or bringing along things to sell to raise money.

It's not just tour players likeBubba Watson who are getting the most out PING's new G30. The latest series of woods from PING are proving to be a big hit with club golfers; the crown turbulators helping to generate faster clubhead speed for longer, more accurate tee shots.

The new Big Bertha V Series driver is super lightweight and is designed to help maximize distance for players who are looking for more speed. Far from being aimed at just those with slow swing speeds, it has also proved a big hit on tour.
