The new 9 holes at HGC At the end of last month Greg Kemsley (General Manager), Phil Quelch (Head Green Keeper), Brian Austin (Club Captain), Andy Glover (Seniors' Captain and Club Vice-Captain) and I all played the new nine hole design at Hassocks. |
|
I’m sure everyone is now aware the course will change from 18 holes to 9 holes at some point in 2019. The exact timing of the changeover is still unknown, unfortunately we continue to work to the developer’s time lines rather than our own. The purpose of the game was to talk and walk through the changes that will be made to the course. The new design will consist of seven existing holes (2nd, 8th, 17th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 16th) and two new holes. Many good points were made and talked through by everyone. Everyone agreed the holes played very well and the two new holes added to the layout. At this point I would like to stress we will continue to have at least nine holes open throughout the re-development and offer competition golf to our members. If you have any questions regarding the re-development at Hassocks please simply click here. |
Simple changes Last week Andy Taylor came for a lesson in our indoor swing studio. He stated he was playing ok, but thought he could definitely improve his driving. He thought he had lost some ball flight (height) with his driving and also some distance. After assessing Andy’s technique we made one change to his swing. Andy was hitting down on the ball too much with his driver creating a steep angle of attack. As a result of this Andy had lowered his tee height, this meant he was striking the ball to low on the club face (pictured below). These in turn had increased the side and back spin on the ball, both unproductive for a driver flight. By increasing Andy’s tee height and improving his angle of attack into the ball we hugely improved the strike on the face, moving it higher towards the top of the driver (as pictured). The end result? We increased Andy’s driver distance by 10 to 15 yards, increased the total height by 20 feet and improved the hang-time of the ball in the air. Very simple changes but with great effect. What difference could a lesson make to your game? To find out and book a lesson today simply click here.

An ace week for Master Eddie The British Masters took place at Walton Heath in Surrey last week and was hosted by the local favourite, Justin Rose. The tournament had a stark weather contrast from start to finish with conditions declining and making it a real grind for the players. The caddies were certainly tested during the final round trying to keep their players warm and dry. It was a day of umbrellas, waterproofs and wearing the correct layering, which at this time of year can help or hinder your round. The tournament winner was Eddie Pepperell who dealt with the conditions the best and led from start to finish to claim a two-shot victory. Eddie’s highlight of the week was his impressive hole-in-one on Thursday at the ninth hole, earning £20,000 for charity and a celebratory bottle of wine from the tournament host. Pepperell now moves up to 33rd in the world rankings and with it an invite to next year’s biggest tournaments including his first trip to The Masters at Augusta. If you need help layering up this winter then contact me here. |

When you step onto the tee with a driver in hand, there are two thoughts in most golfers' minds: "Hit it far, and hit it straight". Both of these were easier said than done, until Titleist released its new TS2 and TS3 drivers earlier this year... |
Both of these drivers are designed to bring more speed to your game, which results in greater distance. It's as simple as that. The Titleist TS2 is all about forgiveness. In fact, it has the highest MOI that Titleist has ever produced, which means it's more resistant to twisting at impact, for longer and straighter shots. However, if you have a consistent miss with your drives, the TS3 will be perfect for you as we can set it up to counter your destructive shot. With two models to choose from, it's more important than ever to come and see us for a custom fitting. What numbers will you be putting up on the Titleist board? |
