I'm delighted to be able to announce the news I will be opening a new store at Pyecombe Golf Club; the opening day will be Monday, 1 June 2015. I will continue to operate at Hassocks Golf Club as before, and will run Pyecombe as a sister shop to Hassocks. I would like to take this opportunity to state my continued commitment to Hassocks Golf Club in the short, medium and long-term. I'm very excited to be able to lead Hassocks into its potential re-development period and continue into a sustainable and successful future. Members and visitors to Hassocks will notice no difference to the levels of service and stock we have offered previously.

It is a great opportunity I have been offered by Pyecombe and I have always held the ambition to open a second store. As many of you will know, I started playing golf aged 10 as a junior member of Pyecombe. I remained a member of Pyecombe for nine years before turning professional. I then worked in the pro shop at Pyecombe for a further two years before completing my PGA qualification at East Brighton Golf Club. For this reason, Pyecombe holds a sentimental and historical attachment to me.

Last Monday I visited Wentworth as part of a Callaway Golf Corporate Day.

Whilst there I had the opportunity to meet Joe Miller, the current World Long Drive Champion, a title he won in America last year. I am pictured along side him here.

I had the misfortune of hitting golf balls next to him on the driving range, a situation that is not good for anyone's ego!! The driving range we were hitting golf balls on measured 270 yards, he was hitting his 5-iron over the back fence. He hit several drivers with many measuring over 350 yards.

Membership Raffle - Congratulations to Gary Warman on winning the first Membership Raffle. Any member who paid their membership subscriptions in full before the 15th March was entered into the raffle. The lucky winner, Gary (pictured here), won half his membership fee back.

Captain's Charity Day - Entry has now opened for Captain's Charity Day on Saturday, 27 June. The day will be an 18 hole Stableford with prizes for the best team and individual plus nearest the pins, a two-course buffet will follow the golf. There will also be a quality raffle and tombola, putting competition and charity auction. All the profits will go to the nominated Captain's Charity for the year - Whoopadaisy - A Sussex based charity for children with physical disabilities.

Entry forms are available from the office. Entry fees for teams of four will be £28 for each member and £38 for non-members. Limited to 20 teams - first come, first served. If you would like to know more about the fantastic work Whoopadaisy does please view this video.

Masters Texas Scramble - Congratulations to 'The Chancers' on winning The Masters Texas Scramble last Sunday. The event was held on Sunday afternoon with many members staying after the golf to watch the completion of the Masters in the clubhouse.

The team of Martin Tigg (Seniors' Vice-Captain), Stephen Agar, Paul Bristow and Keith Cowley (Seniors' Captain) returned a fantastic score of gross 65 (nett 58.7) in very windy conditions - pictured here. Many thanks to Greg for organising such a brilliant afternoon for over 50 members and guests and to Radick for providing a delightful chilli after the golf. Please see the notice boards in the club house for the next social event.

Last month's March Medal was won by Ann Austin, ahead of Kathy Sage in second and Marian Smith in third. Ann Austin also led the way in the March Meeting Stableford with Caroline Snelgrove in second. Longest drive was won by Linda Alford, with Ann continuing her good form by winning the Nearest the pin prize.

   

The Easter Meeting was played in a Medal format with Judith Leeves taking top spot ahead of Carol Reed in second. Judith carried on her rich vein of form by winning the April Medal. Marian Smith finished as runnerup with Madi Habens in third.

Rose Bowl - Seniors v Ladies - The ladies were each given three extra shots, however the seniors won by a very narrow margin and so retain the Rose Bowl. Marian Smith and Maureen Roberts won the Coronation Foursomes ahead of Carol Reed and Judith Leeves.

Club Matches - Hassocks' Division Four team made home advantage count as they beat Hollingbury 3-2. The winners on the day were Olga Jeffs, Marian Smith and Ann Austin.
