Thank you to everybody who replied to last week's newsletter and volunteered to be part of the Game Improvement Champion programme. If you missed last week's newsletter, firstly shame on you and secondly…
'I am in need of a volunteer to be my "Game Improvement Champion". The idea is that I take someone under my wing for eight weeks and help them work on all aspects of their game. I will also check their equipment is well suited and in turn improve their golf scores, all at a small cost to the volunteer'.
I have been amazed by the level of interest in this exciting proposition. I've had over 30 people put their names forward. For this reason I have decided to help more than one person, I wish to help everyone!! I have put together a package for everybody who is interested in going forward within the Game Improvement Champion framework. The package will consist of 8 x weekly lessons over an eight week period:
Week 1 - Technique / Golf Swing Assessment
Week 2 - Putting
Week 3 - Chipping
Week 4 - Pitching
Week 5 - Driving
Week 6 - Irons
Week 7 - Course Management Session
Week 8 - Technique Overview - Review
Additional extras of the package - Reduced range ball rate (£1 v £3) - to encourage practice between lessons. Free golf club assessment/custom fit session (if required or wanted). 10% discount on ALL pro shop purchases until 2016.
The discounted cost of the package is £80 - half the normal price for eight lessons!!
I plan to feature everyone who wishes to move forward within the Game Improvement Champion programme within my weekly newsletter. Firstly, by introducing everyone who is taking part within the programme and then by featuring the star pupils from each week. At the end of the programme I will then declare the Ultimate Winner of the Programme. I pleased to announce Callaway Golf have confirmed their sponsorship of this initiative and will give a FREE custom fitted Callaway XR driver to the winner (worth £249).
If you would like to proceed please click here to email me and we will book lesson one into the diary. I look forward to helping you with your golf.
The countdown to my start at Pyecombe Golf Club is now in the final stages, I take the keys on Monday, 1 June. Recently I have felt more like a Project Manager rather than a Golf Pro, I have been organising Electricians, Builders, Shop Fitters and Carpet Layers. During my first week I will refurbish the pro shop at Pyecombe completely and I will commence trading on Saturday, 6 June 2015. Thank you to the many of you who have wished me well in my new adventure. I'm expecting to have a very busy summer with my wife expecting our second child in mid-July!

Congratulations to Matt Platt who won the May Midweek Stableford last Tuesday. Matt (pictured here) returned a score of 36 points to win the competition. Chris Blake finished second on 35 points beating Dennis Warner on countback. Chris Crook finished fourth on countback to Chris and Dennis.
The competition standard scratch score remained unchanged at 69 for the competition. No twos were achieved during the competition, therefore the pot of £38 will rollover to the next midweek competition on Tuesday, 19 May.
During the week leading up to the Captain's Charity Day on Saturday, 27 June the Club Captain, along with all the Section Captains and/or their "Seconds" and any other volunteers that care to help, will be trawling the water hazards on the first hole and recovering golf balls and any other items they find! The balls will be counted, cleaned and those deemed re-useable will be sold raising money for "Whoopsadaisy" - this year's Captain's Charity. In association with this re-sale, there will be a sweepstake running in the clubhouse bar for everyone to guess the number of balls retrieved. First prize for the person nearest to the total number of balls retrieved is a fourball voucher at a top Sussex golfing venue. The total number of balls recovered and the winner of the sweepstake will be announced at the Captain's Charity Event. Entry fee for the Sweepstake is 50p a go or 3 goes for £1, put your guesses down on the sheets available from behind the Bar. The trawling will take place on the evening of Wednesday, 24 June.
Hassocks played their first Mixed Match of the year at home on Sunday, 10 May against Mid Sussex, which was a new fixture this year. Both teams enjoyed the afternoon sunshine followed by an excellent Sunday roast. I'm delighted to say the team marched to a comprehensive victory without a single pair losing a match.
The end result finished 5-1, with four pairs winning and two halves. The match results were: Paul Mayes (Club Captain) & Amanda Warren won 7&6, Lee Preston & Marion Smith won 2 up, Andy Taylor & Ann Austin won 2 up, Brian Austin & Margaret Crook won 1 up, Make Page & Liz Range halved and Ian Smith & Carol Reed halved.
The next Mixed Match is away to West Chiltington on June 14th. Sign-up sheets are on the noticeboards.
