Last Sunday saw the most bitterlycommitted competition of the year take placeover the course at Hassocks! The annual Men vWomen challenge for the Rolling PinTrophy. Five pairings took up thechallenge with more intensity than the RyderCup. The forecast was for a stormy afternoon butthe sun broke through into a very pleasantafternoon. It was a 'friendly' contest played ingood spirit but hard fought with two matchesgoing to the 17th green to be decided, with oneteam claiming a victory each. The men's teammanaged to take the trophy home again but by thesmallest of margins, a 3-2 victory. Well playedall and congratulations to men's team captainand club captain Paul Mayes.
Prizegiving - Following thecompletion of the Autumn Meeting this Saturday,the end of summer quarterly prizegiving willtake place at approximately 3.30pm. If you havewon a competition over the last three monthsplease make the effort to attend the prizegivingto collect your prize.
Hassocks Golf Club will hold its AGMtonight in the clubhouse at 7.30pm. Every memberis welcome to attend. The evening will includethe 'passing-over' of the captains from men'sclub captain Paul Mayes to vice captain AndyTaylor.
The Captain's Drive-In willtake place the following morning at 8.00am atthe start of the Autumn Meeting. I'm sure thenew captains will be delighted for all yoursupport and to witness their drives.
Congratulations to Rob Temple-Smithson whocontinued his excellent recent form to win the Men'sSeptember Stableford. Rob returned agross 74 which resulted in a fantastic sum of 43points! Gary Pillings claimed second place with39 points on countback from Stuart Allbury.Following his brilliant competition performanceRob received an exceptional score reduction tohis handicap, which was reduced to 9.6. LucasDurrant won the juniors' Founder Cupwith 39 points (pictured above), two ahead ofHarry Nelson in second with Jack Beuttell Triggsone shot further back in third. The event wassponsored by both Paul Mayes and Martin Stoner(Jewellers).
The junior team played their final Dockerill'sBrighton Junior League match of theseason at Singing Hills last week. The juniorsput in a very good performance on the day tofinish second out of the five teams competing.Unfortunately it was not enough to overturn thedeficit in the overall league standings.Although the team were unable to defend thecrown they have won three of the last fouryears, they did manage to finish second with72.5 points, with a very healthy 20 point marginover third. Well down to all the juniors whocontributed to the team through the summer.
